Mogwai Particle

$2,500.00

This cheeky piece evolved from many hours of experimentation and construction . Starting off with a universe background (which to me represents the quantum field of both space, time and the multiverse) and then moving on to experimenting with alcohol ink on yupo. Depending on my mood and energy, the marks made during this process dictate what emerges from the happy accidents. I like to think that the universe has a part in this process, and I'm just the physical matter manifesting the universe's idea. Using instinct to pick out my favourite moments and cut them out meticulously, I then collect and play with all these moments, putting them together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Once I feel there is a balance, using all archival quality mediums, I will then seal each individual piece into the canvas, like a acrylic sandwich. I also use acrylic skins in this piece, created by multiple acrylic pours onto silicone mats, and then peeled offlike a big stickers, which are then trimmed and cut into controlled shapes, and slotted in with the existing pieces.

Then it's consciousness time! The final chapter of this creation involves doing a gazillion dots with ink and acrylic, right down to microscopic dots made with a fine calligraphy nib. Each dot to me represents a cosmic breath in a multiverse of universes. I imagine that each hypothetical 'big bang', and each possible 'big crunch' is just a cosmic breath in and out.

Then the piece is sealed in with multiple layers of UV protective varnish, protecting all these layers so that the work stands the test of time.

And I ended up calling it 'Mogwai Particle', because let's face it, it kinda ended up looking like a Gremlin.....which is totally fine with me. No one can say that the universe doesn't have a sense of humour....
